Docosanol 10% cream occurs as topical coarse of action for perennial herpes simplex labialis episodes (episodes of cold sores or fever blisters). The soppy 22-carbon aliphatic alcohol, Docosanol exhibits bag activity against numerous lipoid engulfed viruses including herpes simplex virus (HSV). Docosanol inhibits fusion between a plasma membrane & a herpes simplex virus (HSV) envelope, thereby preventing viral entry into cells & subsequent viral replication. Since a compound doesn't work directly on the virus, these are improbable that it might make drug immune mutants of HSV.
